AI Happy Hour | Swarm Robotics: From Biological Inspiration to Collective Intelligence in Engineered Systems

Offline

Join us for an evening of networking to explore the world of swarm robotics, discuss their decision-making process, and address safety challenges at our AI Happy Hour event! This in-person event will take place on Monday 28 April at 17:30 in the FARI Test and Experience Center (Cantersteen 16, 1000 Brussels).

Raina Zakir is currently pursuing a PhD at IRIDIA (ULB), researching resilience against malicious attacks in the collective decision-making processes of robot swarms, funded by the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique – FNRS. She previously earned her bachelor’s degree in Computer Security from RIT, NY (Dubai campus), followed by a master’s in Robotics at Middlesex University, UK (Dubai campus), where she focused her research on Swarm Robotics.

Description of the session:
Swarm robotics involves large groups of simple robots working together by communicating with each other and their surroundings to achieve a common goal. Taking inspiration from nature—like how ants organize, birds flock, and fish school—these robots need to make smart collective decisions, whether it’s gathering objects, deciding where to build, or figuring out the best direction to move. But for swarm systems to work reliably, they also need to handle disruptions, including interference from malicious agents. This talk will introduce you to the world of robot swarms, how they make decisions collectively, and why sustaining the impact of malicious agents is important to make the deployment of robot swarm safe in real-world scenarios.

Is this for you? Administrators, industry professionals and AI enthusiasts are invited to join this session.

A balanced mix of learning and relaxation – Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in insightful discussions with Raina, followed by a casual happy hour with snacks and beverages!

This event is free to attend, but registration is compulsory.

This event is organized by FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute.
