In a world where technology is evolving rapidly, the need to ensure diversity and inclusion in the tech industry has never been more crucial. FARI and BeCentral is opening up space in this direction by hosting the The Future of Tech is Female event. During this year’s edition FARI is joining the discussion through a session entitled “The Story Behind Women in Academia,” designed to celebrate and empower women working in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research by sharing their testimonials and experiences, emphasizing failures and success stories.
This initiative by FARI aims to break down the barriers restraining women’s participation in AI research. By providing a platform to celebrate women in academia, particularly AI, this event will feature testimonials from speakers and spark engaging discussions with the participants to discover what goes behind the curtains of academia.
“The Story Behind Women in Academia” will consist of testimonials from:
– Anastasia Karagiani, PhD Candidate at VUB LSTS & FARI Institute on gender discrimination in AI
– Aleksandra Zaniewska, PhD Candidate at VUB BUDA & FARI AI Accelerator
– Samira Bakkali, PhD Candidate and Teaching Assistant at Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (SBS-EM) – ULB
– Miriam Doh, PhD Candidate at IRIDIA Lab (ULB) – ISIA lab (UMONS) in Explainable AI applied to Computer Vision
After the sessions, the event will also have a networking section with roundtables to facilitate connections with each other and create potential collaborations. Fostering these networks is crucial in creating a supportive ecosystem where women in tech can share experiences, gain mentorship, and find opportunities.
This FREE event is happening on Wednesday, 22 November 2023 at the FARI premises in BeCentral (Cantersteen 16, 1000 Brussels), from 18:30 to 20:30.
Engineers, designers, researchers, entrepreneurs, students, teachers, policy-makers, innovators, enthusiasts on AI, data, and robotics of all ages and genders are welcome to take part of this initiative.
This initiative is a testament to FARI’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and diverse tech and innovation landscape, recognizing the importance of a diversity and inclusivity to achieve AI for the common good.
