The Biometrika Residency is open for applications until November 30th, 2024. Powered by Ohme and Pilar, and in collaboration with FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute, this residency will offer artists the chance to explore how biometric data can shape and influence their artistic expression.
During this residency, artists, engineers, and researchers will come together to explore how real-time biometric data could be integrated into live performances. FARI will provide access to its sensor library, robotics library, and CAVE (Computer Augmented Virtual Environment), as well as the scientific expertise of our researchers in artificial intelligence, data, and robotics.
Selected artists will have access to:
– Pilar Box’s performance space and equipment
– Biometric technologies developed by Ohme Lab
– FARI’s sensor library and robotics resources
– Support from researchers and engineers in the fields of AI and data processing
The residency will focus on exploring how biosignals—captured through technologies such as EEG headsets, motion detectors, and heart rate monitors—can be integrated into live performances, influencing both the creation and the audience’s experience.
This residency provides the tools and environment to experiment with new ways of using biometric data in art. It is an opportunity to work with experts and develop innovative approaches to performance.
If you are an artist interested in the boundaries of biometrics and live performance, we invite you to submit your application before 30/11/2024, 23:59 (CET).
The Biometrika Residency is open to individual artists, collectives, or artistic organizations based in Belgium. Applicants must be fluent in English, with proficiency in French and/or Dutch appreciated.
Artists should show a curiosity for science and technology and an interest in interdisciplinary collaboration. While experience in areas like biometrics, AI, and cognitive psychology is not required, a willingness to engage with specialists is encouraged. Proposals exploring other scientific disciplines are also welcome.
