LIBRA.I. (Erasmus+ Project)

On November 1, 2024, FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute (VUB & ULB) became a part of the LIBRA.I. project, which will run until October 31, 2026. This initiative, funded by Erasmus+, unites 4 partners from Belgium, Germany, Poland, and Latvia to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into media and learning literacy trainings in public libraries. The project aims to upskill librarians by providing AI-related training, enabling them to guide the public in understanding digital media, combating disinformation, addressing the ethical implications of AI, and teaching how to use AI in everyday life.

About LIBRA.I.

LIBRA.I. is an Erasmus+ project that launched in November 2024. It focuses on incorporating AI into media and digital literacy education within public libraries. These libraries are crucial in helping citizens acquire the necessary skills to navigate the growing complexities of the digital age, offering a safe space for learning. Through LIBRA.I., librarians are receiving specialized training on AI, empowering them to support the public in understanding digital media, combating disinformation, addressing the ethical concerns surrounding AI, and learning how to apply AI in their daily lives.

The LIBRA.I. project brings together a diverse group of partners, including FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute Brussels, Université Libre de Bruxelles  (ULB), Muntpunt Library, Goethe-Institut, Biblioteka Miejska, and Latvijas Nacionala Biblioteka.

In May, June, and July 2025, librarians in Riga, Brussels, and Łódź will participate in hands-on workshops, where AI experts and AI ambassadors will provide specialized training to librarians. Together, they will co-create and test new training formats, ensuring that AI knowledge is accessible to diverse library users. The project will also produce a methodology framework for integrating AI into media literacy training, published in the five languages of the project, and contribute to European digital education platforms. The methodology will be released towards the end of the project in 2026 and will be open to the public.

FARI’s Involvement

FARI leads the upskilling of library professionals by organizing monthly meetings, each focused on a specific AI topic, equipping librarians with the knowledge to navigate and teach AI-related subjects. Additionally, FARI is responsible for organizing the three hands-on bootcamps in Latvia, Belgium, and Poland, where AI experts and ambassadors will provide specialized training. Through these initiatives, FARI ensures that librarians are well-prepared to integrate AI into media literacy programs, empowering them to guide the public in understanding AI, digital media, and disinformation.
