Patrick Van der Spiegel is a PhD candidate at the FARI Institute and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel’s Artificial Intelligence Lab. Mr. Van der Spiegel completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s in Computer Science, specializing in artificial intelligence, at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Mr Van der Spiegel’s research focused on the intersection of AI and cybersecurity. He collaborated with research and industry partners to develop transparent and interpretable models and algorithms.

He is also interested in applications of AI to other areas with a profound impact on society, including healthcare and sustainability. By combining technical expertise with a broader perspective on societal challenges, he aspires to contribute to innovative solutions for the common good.

He currently works on a new interdisciplinary research project in collaboration with the AIMS research group, combining AI and neuroscience to develop new and interpretable ways of modeling functional connectivity within brains. Through this research, they hope to improve our understanding of the impact of Multiple Sclerosis on brain functioning.
